Dr. Larry Stewart

Dr. Larry Stewart beloved husband, father, grandfather, and the best of friends passed away on the morning of October 13th at the age of 72. Larry endured a four month long battle with cancer before succumbing to the disease early Wednesday morning. He was born in Buhl, Idaho on August 15, 1938 to Joe and Elnora Stewart and was the oldest of three children. Larry was an avid chukar hunter, fly fisherman, Forty-Niner fan, and gardener who loved watching his grandchildren compete in sports. Larry will be remembered for his great barbeques, beautiful garden, friendly company and the many wonderful memories made at his home with his wife and family.
Larry always believed in the unlimited value of an education and instilled in his children and grandchildren the desire to succeed to the best of their abilities. Larry will be deeply missed by those who love him and knew him. His memory will continue to inspire his family to move forward and continue to build up on the family foundation put in place by Larry's hard work.
Larry attended Idaho State University from 1958-1962, receiving a degree in History. He went on to receive a Masters in Education from Idaho State University, and an Educational Specialist Degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. Larry also earned a Doctorate in Public Administration from the joint program offered through the University of Nevada, Reno and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Larry was employed by the Pershing County School District for 39 years, retiring in June of 2001 as their principal. Larry loved to teach. He taught United States History, United States Government, Civics, Economics, Geography, and World History. Although he taught a variety of subjects it was known to many that History was his favorite one. It was not uncommon for him to share this subject with his children and grandchildren. When he wasn't teaching he loved coaching football, basketball, track and his sons in Little League Baseball.
He is Survived by his beloved wife Elaine of 52 years, their children Carey and his wife Kathy of Reno, Jeff of Woodinville, WA and Linda and her husband Rob of Reno, his six grandchildren Jessica, Nichole, Kyle, Karina, Kasandra and Kelsie, his brother Gene Stewart of Merdian, Idaho, and numerous nieces and nephews.
